City of Austin Small Business Week: Art, Collaboration, and CommunityName: City of Austin Small Business Week: Art, Collaboration, and CommunityDate: May 6, 2021Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM CDTRegistration: Sorry, registration for this event is closedEvent Description:
The Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce and Austin Classical Guitar invite you to join an informative and artistic presentation followed by Q&A with Joe Williams (ACG Artistic Director) and Kevin Chin (Northshore Media Owner, Founder of Asian Creatives of Greater Austin) about our collaboration, art-making, monetizing during the pandemic, and community engagement as artistic process. The presentation will include several art experiences ACG and Northshore have created together like Oliver Rajamani at One World Theatre, a sculpture, music and video piece at Laguna Gloria, and a presentation called HOPE with artists from 13 countries.
Austin Classical Guitar, a long time GAACC member and collaborator, is engaged in a wide variety of community-based art-making and service projects. ACG’s three primary areas are Concerts, Education, and Music and Healing. In a typical year, ACG brings artists from more than 15 countries to Austin. ACG Education has built guitar programs in American schools in forty states, including nearly all AISD middle and high schools, five surrounding districts, the juvenile justice system, and braille adapted systems at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. ACG Music and Healing addresses trauma through song-writing and other engagements in more than a dozen local hospitals, shelters, and correctional systems.
In this talk, ACG Artistic Director Joe Williams, alongside deep collaborator Kevin Chin of Northshore Media, will share insights into community-based art making, art during a pandemic, how AV has been leveraged both as a new medium for art and expressivity, and also access and inclusion. They will share clips of beautiful projects, and gladly answer any questions you may have.
This free event is part of a Small Business Weekprogram in May 3-7, sponsored by the Small Business Division of the City of Austin.
