Asian Pacific Americans (APA) make up over 6% of the total population in the U.S. but 75% of the Fortune 100 and 71% of the top 100 foundations have ZERO APA representation on their boards. APAs have to do their part and prepare as well as ask to serve.
The first step is to become knowledgeable on what the role and responsibilities of a board of directors are. Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP) is a national non-profit organization that has been developing APAs to fully take on leadership roles in non-profits.
GAACC is proud to host LEAP President & CEO Linda Akutagawa in Austin for a series of workshops. This one will cover board governance, with special focus on how Asian cultural traits can impact a director's performance on a board. Anyone who is new, or considering serving on a board should attend this training.
There is a small fee to attend but most of the cost is being subsidized by GAACC.
