• APA Community Events

  • The APA community in Austin actively celebrates festivals unique to its diverse traditions and roots, but is also creating new ones that reflect its assimilation into Austin's culture. Here is a sampling of some of these celebrations.

    Lunar New Year/Tet (falls in January or February)

    • Asian American Cultural Center has a LNY celebration with performances and vendors
    • Chinatown Shopping Center hosts a joyful event with traditional lion dance and fire crackers

    Bengali New Year (April) - Bangladesh Association of Greater Austin hosts an annual celebration 

    South Asian New Year Festival (April) -  Pohela Boishakh at Zilker Hillside Theater

    Dragon Boat Festival (April) - The Asian American Cultural Center organizes these annual races at Festival Beach on Lady Bird Lake.

    iFest (August) - The Indian Community Center of Austin hosts an annual celebration in conjunction with India's independence day.

    LuckyChaos Theater Projects produces works by or about Asian Americans as as other under-represented communities.
